Curriculum

The curriculum at Goldfield Infants' & Nursery School has been carefully planned to enable children to develop the knowledge and skills that they will need for the next step in their learning journey when they leave our school. It is sequenced so that the intended curriculum for each year group builds on what has been taught before and children work towards clear end points. There is a broad range of subjects linked to the Early Years and National Curriculum that all children have access to, regardless of their individual learning needs, and teachers make meaningful links between subjects whenever possible so that children can connect new knowledge with existing knowledge to help them remember it.

Children’s happiness, wellbeing and high achievement is at the heart of everything we do, so our curriculum is supported by a wide range of enrichment activities and extra-curricular opportunities. These experiences also help children to develop the cultural capital that they will benefit from throughout their lives.

Our curriculum also extends beyond the academic to support children’s personal development.  We aim for children to be kind, confident, responsible and respectful and to develop the strength of character to make a positive contribution to society, both throughout their education and as adults.

Curriculum Knowledge and Skills Documents

These show the skills and knowledge that our children are expected to have gained by the end of Year 2. The Goldfield Infants' & Nursery School staff team have worked hard to ensure that the Early Years and National Curriculum is fully and comprehensively implemented within our school.

Each subject area has clear progression of knowledge and skills children will build up during their time in school. This ensures that children are offered teaching in line with their age and developmental stage, helping them to develop their learning in a coherent manner and supporting them to become increasingly independent in applying their skills.

At Goldfield Infants' & Nursery School we know that children learn at different paces and some children will need additional support to acquire the key knowledge and skills and stated on our curriculum documents. Other children may meet these objectives before the end of the Key Stage and they will be challenged to apply their knowledge in different contexts.

We take into consideration the interests of the children and teachers and make as many links across the curriculum as possible, e.g. teaching Maths skills for handling data through a science lesson or writing diaries as a character from history.
