It was wonderful to welcome John from Skip2Bfit to Goldfield for a skipping fitness workshop and assembly.
We have enjoyed a week dedicated to skipping techniques and fitness. Skip2BFit showed the children how to persevere, build a growth mindset and beat their skipping score when timed for 2 minutes skipping with ropes that include a small counter.
Please scroll down to view photographs and a video clip from the day.
Safety first, each session began with the safety tips. Firstly to protect your bones when skipping wear trainers or skip on a cushioned mat.
In order to skip safely the skipping rope must be the correct length.
Skip2Bfit skipping ropes as easily adjusted by pulling the rope.
To make the rope the correct size put a foot the the rope then pull the handles up to you upper chest (the monkey lift). Lengthen or shorten the rope accordingly.
Next, make sure you have enough room around you. Do a windmill turn, hold out your arms and turn around.
Hold the foam part of the handles (the squidgey bit) and make sure your hand does not cover the counter. Put the counter handle in your right hand to count forward. If the handle is in your left hand the counter will count backwards.
Press the black button to set the counter to zero.
Step over the rope and skip forward.
Now we are ready to begin the Skipping Challenge!
Skip to music for 2 minutes and the rope will count the number of skips you do. Check your score! Repeat the 2 minute challenge and try your hardest to beat your score. But don't give up, practice and the next time try even harder to beat your score!
John gave every child and teacher a box of blueberries to promote the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Can you make a bluebery smoothy with the recipe that has been sent home? A new challenge has also been set in order to dispose of the blueberry plastic packaging responsibly (its so important to reduce, reuse and recycle our plastic waste). The challenge is to find a new use for the box and keep it for as long as possible. Blueberry Bounce Ball prizes are with the teachers to award for creative ideas. A Blueberry Bounce game and app are available.
A blueberry plant was also presented to the Goldfingers Garden Club to be planted in the school grounds so that we can harvest and enjoy our own healthy blueberries.
Celebration Skip2Bfit Assembly
