WOW! What a fantastic Science Fair we have shared with Bourton Meadow Academy. Groups of children from both schools visited five science activities inside and in the school grounds. The activities included; Galactic Rocket Balloons, a Minibeast Hunt, Tree Detectives, Flying Cupcake Cases and Investigating Splodge. Becoming Science Detectives for the day, working and learning together, sharing ideas and making new friends was such FUN!
Galactic Rocket Balloons
What happens when air comes out of a balloon? We are going to use this air to power our Galactic Rocket Balloons, giving them the power of thrust which will allow them to travel along a thread. But what effect will friction have on them? Choose from a round or long balloon and see if your group can add some details to make the Galactic Rocket Balloons more aerodynamic to travel faster. At the end of the activity we will race the Galactic Rocket Balloons!
What do you need to do before you launch a rocket?

Look carefully in this jar. What do you think is inside? There are three different materials inside but what keeps them separate? The different materials are golden syrup, coloured water and oil.
How can we mix the materials together without touching or shaking the jar? You may choose to use a cube, washing up liquid or a vitamin C dissolvable tablet.
These groups of children chose to use the vitamin C dissolvable tablet to mix up the materials. Please click on the play button below to see what happened during their experiment.
The minibeast hunt was on; but where would be the best place to find minibeats? In the nature trail woodland area or the natural wild meadow area? What exciting discoveries we made!
Shall we look the the woodland area...
...or the wild meadow area?
Just look what we found next! This looks just like one of the frogs that hatched from the frogs spawn in our new pond.
After a busy morning we enjoyed a picnic lunch together on the field.
Time to continue with our Science Fair activities.
Flying Cupcake Cases
