Business Visit to Fancy That

Ever since she was a little girl aged 7 the owner of Fancy That wanted to have her own gift shop. Her dream came true and Fancy That have been open for business for 25 years. Fancy That's unique selling point is to offer quality gifts, fine home accessories and gift wrapping for all their customer purchases, an idea that the owner had when she visited a shop on holiday with her family as a child. Fancy That also sell unique and unusual gifts made by local people that cannot be purchased anywhere else!
Fancy That is a retail gift shop. Their suppliers (over100 of them) travel all over the world buying stock in large quantities. Fancy That along with other retailers buy stock from the suppliers but in smaller quantities. A mark up price is added to the stock price and then the products are sold on to their customers.
Fancy That use a variety of equipment in the day to day running of the business, computer, phone, cctv, till, card reader and lots more. We took a closer look starting with the till.
Payment has really changed over the years. Cash and cheques were the most popular methods of payment but these have been replaced with electronic payments; chip and pin or contactless tap and pay. These payments are made using a card reader.

This bank card has a micro-chip (the silver square). When it is placed into a card reader customers can enter thier pin number which allows them to pay for things. |

This symbol on a bank card means that customers can pay for their purchases using the contactless method, tap and pay. Placing their card on the screen of the card reader and hearing a bleep, the payment is made! |

Contactless payment can also be made using an i-phone... |

...or an i-watch. |

In the shop we use an Ipad rather than a computer.
For security and safety Fancy That have cctv cameras in several places in the shop with a monitor by the till. A remote control can select individual cameras to show on the monitor, two cameras at a time, or four cameras at a time, making every area in the shop visible to the staff working at the tills.
Shop displays are a very important part of the business, in the shop windows and internal displays. They invite customers into the shop and are often themed with celebrations. Their current display features 'Haloween'. The biggest display and busiest time of year is 'Christmas'!
