What an amazing day we have had with 'Day O Drums' - enjoying the fun, excitement and tantalising rhythms of real steel pans!

During a whole school assembly we were transported to the Caribbean where we began a 'Pirate Adventure'. Following on from the assembly every class continued the 'Pirate Adventure' singing songs and playing the steel pans whilst mending the boat, sailing the seas and finding the lost treasure.

Please click on the play button below to view video clips of the fun we had.

Would anyone like to become a pirate and help me to find the hidden treasure?

Photograph of Day O Drums

Oh yes, we all would!

Let's take a closer look at the steel pans. Have you noticed there are three different sized pans. Each one plays a different pitch.

Different notes are played depending on which part of the pan you drum. The steel pans we are using have coloured spots inside so that we can play the correct notes.

Before we set sail we need to mend a few holes in the boat.

Not just inside the boat but outside too!

Mending the outside of the boat helped us to learn how to play the steel pans gently.

With the repairs all done we are ready to set sail. What will make the boat move?

Let's all play the steel pan on a red spot to make the sound of the wind.
