Who are they? What do they do?

Goldfield's Governing Body

We have 16 Governors at Goldfield School. This includes 3 Parent Governors and a Non-teaching Staff member. In addition there is a County Link Governor. As a full governing body we meet once each half term.

As well as their collective responsibilities, governors are also members of committees with specific responsibilities:

  • Resource Matters: responsible for Finance and Premises (the occupation, use and upkeep of the school premises as well as determining and monitoring the yearly budget). Also responsible for Health and Safety (ensuring that the school and all occupants are safe: this includes risk assessments and regular health and safety reviews).
  • Learning Matters: responsible for Staff and Pupils (staffing, including employing new staff, and pupils welfare). Also responsible for Curriculum and School Evaluation (fulfilling the school's curricular and legal obligations and evaulates the school's performance and future plans).

All committees have a core membership, however governors are invited to attend all committee meetings. A quorum will be at least three Governors. Associate Members may vote and Chair meetings as minuted at the Full Governing Body on 30th September 2009.

Goldfield's Site Manager (Mr A Whitehead) attends the Health & Safety Review Group Meetting.

To ensure consistency, the governing body makes decisions as a 'body', never as individuals.
