New Nursery Admissions Text

We are delighted to welcome new children into our Nursery.  The School operates a two-form entry system (morning and afternoon sessions), with a single intake to our Nursery Class each September.

Maintained schools in Hertfordshire are now responsible for the admissions of children to Nursery in 2018-2019 and onwards.  Goldfield is working closely with Grove Road Primary and Dundale Primary Schools to ensure the process is the same in each school and that parents receive consistent information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their preferred nursery class.

The timeline for our nursery admissions process is outlined below and tours may be booked by arrangement with the school office.

November 2017 onwards Parent tours for Nursery intake, by prior arrangement with the school office. Please call 01442 823551 or email admin@goldfield.herts.sch.uk

Nursery Admission Process

  • Please see the timeline above for details of when and how to apply.
  • Applications will only be accepted on Goldfield Infants' and Nursery School's official application form which is available to download from the timeline above.
  • For 2018-2019 children with birth dates between 1st September 2014 - 31st August 2015 will be admitted at a single point of entry which is in the September.
  • Goldfield offer 15 hours (5 sessions) of free early education per week. Less than 5 sessions per week will not be considered unless this has prior agreement from the Headteacher. On entry you will be expected to complete a separate early years education funding form.
  • We allocate 5 sessions per week either morning or afternoon. Morning Nursery sessions are 8.45-11.45 am and Afternoon Nursery session are 12.15-3.15 pm. There is a single point of entry in September with youngest (birth dates March-August) attending mornings and older children (birth dates September-February) attending afternoons; this may vary depending on dates of birth in the cohort.
  • Our Nursery planned admission number is 60 children.
  • In the event of over subscription, places will be allocated in accordance with the Admission Rules (see below).
  • If you are applying under SEND or social or medical rules etc. it is the applicant's responsibility to provide written professional evidence at the time of their application; if this is not included the application cannot be considered under these Admission Rules.
  • The tie break rule is distance which is measured by an online tool and the school's decision is final on this.
  • There is no appeal process for Nursery.
  • Contact will only be made with parents of successful applications.
  • Acceptance of places must be in writing by the deadline given on the timeline. Failure to respond by the deadline will result in your child's place being withdrawn and offered to the next child on our Continuing Interest List.
  • If we are over subscribed and your application has not been successful you may request, in writing, to remain on our Continuing Interest List.
  • Goldfield has wrap around care provision, Buttercup Club, which operates a breakfast club 8.00-9.00 am and after school club 3.15-6.00 pm. Depending on which Nursery session your child is allocated you may wish to apply separately for this extended provision. Breakfast Club £5.00 per session and After School Club £11.00 per session. Please click Buttercup Club for further information or click PDF Icon Buttercup Club Application Form (436KB) and PDF Icon Buttercup Club Terms and Conditions (220KB) if you are interested in booking regular wrap around care.
  • Currently Goldfield do not offer 30 hours Nursery provision.
  • It is important to note that a place in our Nursery does NOT guarantee a place in Reception. This is a separate application process see www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions

Nursery Admission Rules for Over-Subscription

Children with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) which names Goldfield will be allocated a place in accordance with the current Education Act, written professional evidence must be provided at the time of application.

If Goldfield is over-subscribed places will be allocated in the following order of priority:

a) Children in Public Care (children looked after), written professional evidence must be provided at the time of application.

b) A child 'at risk' (or the sibling of a child 'at risk') who is the subject of an inter-agency child protection plan, written professional evidence must be provided at the time of application.

c) Other applicants where the following criteria are considered to determine priorities:

  • 1) Children for whom it can be demonstrated that they have a particular medical or social need to go to Goldfield, written professional evidence must be provided at the time of application.
  • 2) Children who have a sibling at Goldfield (or at Bishop Wood C of E Junior School up to the end of Year 5) at the time of application.
  • 3) Any other children.

Tie-break

If more children qualify under a particular rule than there are places available, a tie-break will be used. If more children qualify under criterion 2 than there are places available, priority will be given to those who live nearest to the Nursery as measured by an online distance measurement tool. Where there is a need for a tie-breaker where two different addresses have the same measurement from the school, in the case of a block of flats for example, the lower door number will be deemed nearest as logically this will be on the ground floor and therefore closer. If there are two identical addresses of separate applicants, the tie-break will be the eldest child will be allocated a place. All distance measurements will be from the address point of each individual house to the address point of the school. The School's decision is final.
